Do Professional Consultant Need e-Invoicing in Malaysia?
Malaysia's MyInvois e-Invoice mandate is rolling out in phases from 2024 to 2026. Whether it applies to your professional consultant business depends on your annual revenue. Here's the clear, jargon-free answer.
The plain-English rules for Professional Consultant
If your professional consultant business has annual turnover above RM 1 million, you are required to issue e-invoices compliant with LHDN's MyInvois system from 1 January 2026 (grace period until 30 June 2026).
Below RM 1 million? The mandate is voluntary for now — but LHDN has signalled that eventually all businesses will be included. Starting early gives you a significant advantage.
What "compliant e-invoice" actually means
- Submitted to LHDN via the MyInvois portal or an approved ERP/middleware
- Contains 55+ mandatory fields including TIN, BRN, MSIC code, and digital signature
- Each line item must have a classification code from LHDN's CLASS list
- Validated and returned with a QR code by LHDN before you share it with your buyer
Your next steps as a Professional Consultant
- Check your annual turnover against the RM 1M threshold
- Obtain your TIN from MyTax Portal (mytax.hasil.gov.my)
- Locate your MSIC code from SSM or dosm.gov.my
- Start collecting buyer TIN on all invoices
- Use InvoiceLah to store all required fields now — submit when integration goes live Q2 2026

Does a Professional Consultant need to issue e-invoices in 2026?
It depends on your annual revenue. If your turnover exceeds RM 1 million, Phase 4 of MyInvois applies from 1 January 2026. Below that threshold, compliance is voluntary — but starting early puts you ahead.
What is the penalty for not complying with MyInvois?
The Income Tax Act amendments allow fines of up to RM 20,000 for each non-compliant invoice. However, LHDN has signalled enforcement will be gradual during the grace period to June 2026.
Is InvoiceLah an approved MyInvois solution?
InvoiceLah prepares your invoice data in the LHDN-required format. Direct API submission to LHDN is launching Q2 2026. We are not currently on the approved ERP vendor list but are working toward accreditation.
Do I need a digital signature for every invoice?
Yes — LHDN requires a cryptographic digital signature from an approved Certificate Authority on every submitted e-invoice. InvoiceLah will handle this automatically when direct submission launches.
